What Is The History Of Viking?

Founded by brothers Bob and Bill Healey in 1964, Viking has since seized – and maintained – a reputation for excellence. It all began when the Healeys took over a small local builder of fishing boats, Peterson-Viking Builders. The brothers kept the first half of the name, and established Viking as a self-sufficient manufacturer: apart from engines, transmissions, air conditioning units, and electronics, Viking produces everything in-house.

Since then, Viking has become a byword for exceptional quality, performance, and luxury. Not content to rest on its laurels, Viking has dedicated the last twenty years to innovations in design and efficiency, breaking records along the way. In 2014, the brand celebrated its birthday by debuting the 92C, the world’s biggest resin-infused sportfisher convertible at the time. Just a few years later, Viking transformed the marine industry when it announced the creation of Valhalla Boatworks, a subsidiary that marked its successful foray into the center-console market.

Viking’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship has earned it a litany of critical and commercial accolades, sweeping up accolades from magazines and trade shows since 1996, when the Viking 60 Cockpit Sportsyacht won Boating Magazine’s ‘Boat of the Year’ award. More importantly, the brand has made a significant impression on owners, delivering over 5,000 vessels to buyers throughout the last half century.
