Building innovative and dynamic boats has been a forte of Sailfish since the brand was founded back in 1982. Nowadays there are a dozen of poised, powerful and versatile models offered by this Georgia-based manufacturer. Among the most sought after is the Sailfish 272, a center-console yacht primed for your weekend on-water hunts. This well-rounded performer may look clean and uncomplicated, but it’s really the result of decades of experience and customer feedback, with every square inch of deck and hull surface optimized for offshore fishing. Launched in 2021 and measuring some 29-feet in length when fully rigged, this reliable vessel is positioned as your high-performance, mid-range fisher, perfect for both the casual recreational angler and those more serious about the lifestyle.

WHAT TO LOVE ABOUT THE DESIGN OF THE 272 CC
Conditions offshore are typically anything but predictable, but this boat rises to the occasion with impeccable build quality. There is a flared Carolina-style bow designed to deflect spray and keep your squad dry, and a sheer form to stern optimized for aerodynamics and safety. The 272 also features Sailfish’s own proprietary Variable Degree Stepped hull, now into its sixth generation, which boasts three distinct surfaces for a smooth and stylish way to master the swells. This means the vessel responds dynamically to the water in each unique moment, offering lift as you build speed, a softness to your running style and enhanced agility. The backbone of this superb hull is a robust stringer system, while multi-layered fiberglass augmented by Kevlar and Trevira adds strength and solidity.
WHAT OTHER FEATURES FOR ANGLERS ARE ON BOARD?
The 272 was built by and for fishermen. Padded coamings, steel guardrails and at least 27 rod-holders dotted around the gunwale and transom seem to second-guess your every move. A set of rocket-launchers attached to the hard-top, integrated rod-racks, a tackle station and a lift-gate to port offer convenience across each stage of the fish-fighting process, while a transom door is also available should you feel the need to drop a line from one of two stern-side swim platforms. Though feeling spry and light on the move this is a heavy-duty watercraft in terms of storage. There’s two circulating livewells with LED lighting and transparent screens for a combined 65 gallons of capacity across the transom and lean-post, while there’s also fish-boxes in the bow and a pair of insulated in-sole fish-lockers. A self-bailing cockpit, meanwhile, clears away any salt-water that might tip over the bulwark, while a raw-water hose and a fresh-water shower nozzle are also available to keep things clean on deck.
If you prefer to take things easy then there is a flip-down transom sofa that features as standard, as well as a convivial bow lounge with V-shaped seating and a forward love-seat, all in plush cushioned upholstery. There’s also a pair of piloting seats under the hard-top, facing a modern helm with plenty of hi-tech wizardry. Expect features like Simrad VHF radio, a high-speed compass, trim-tab switches, a 16-inch multi-function display screen from Garmin and options like joystick handling or your choice of digital Yamaha steering or a hydraulic Mercury wheel. If you need to set the mood and get the blood pumping, then switch on a Fusion stereo system that’s linked to a set of integrated speakers. And for those who need to heed the call of nature, a hidden door built into the helm console opens up to reveal a spacious head compartment with a toilet and a sink.
The helm is linked to a range of outboard engine options from Mercury, Suzuki or Yamaha. Top of the range motors can be expected to hit a top speed of around 48 knots at full-throttle, giving you plenty in reserve to accelerate past any speedy Marlin you might encounter. A 177-gallon fuel tank, meanwhile, offers a 284 nautical mile range at a cruising speed of approximately 19 knots, a range that increases to over 368 nautical miles when dialing down to a sedate 6 knot pace.
