What Is The History Of Princess?

In 1965, Princess Yachts began its life in a small industrial unit in Plymouth, a legendary port city in southwest England. Initially founded as Marine Projects Ltd., the brand’s first craft was known as ‘Project 31’, a handsome 64-footer with twin Volvo engines. Just four years later, this project blossomed into the first ‘Princess’ model, the Princess 32, that launched the brand’s popularity, selling over 600 boats throughout the course of its production. Since then, Princess has bravely led and adapted to a changing market, releasing trendsetting flybridge models like the Princess 45, which marked the brand’s entry into the Mediterranean market from the 1980s onward.

The brand’s growing stature attracted legendary naval architect Bernard Olesinski, who initiated a fruitful collaboration that would last for decades to come. Following its acquisition by LVMH, the brand gained further recognition for its service to the marine industry, grabbing awards at Cannes and London for the V48, a handsome and innovative open yacht with zippy IPS pod-driven engines, followed by World Superyacht award for the Princess 40M, a sublime luxury tri-deck with all the trimmings one would expect on a craft of its caliber. In 2023, the brand was sold to KPS Capital Partners, a New York-based investment firm. Today, Princess continues to produce breathtaking vessels noted for their elegance, luxury, and drive, from its most recent F-class range of spacious, hi-tech flybridge yachts to the Princess X95, winner of the Robb Report’s ‘Best of the Best’.
