Founded in 2002 by industry veterans Sergio Maggi and Marcello Bé, Absolute Yachts was established as a result of their extensive experience in the industry. Maggi, a seasoned designer, and Bé, an expert in fiberglass, had previously worked together at Angelo Gobbi’s renowned Cantieri Nautici Gobbi. Following the closure of Gobbi's firm, they came together to create a shipyard that combined traditional hand craftsmanship with modern automation techniques. Soon, Gobbi himself joined the team, offering his visionary talents to the firm, where he continues to be involved in its day-to-day operations.
The firm’s Piacenza shipyard is the locus of three fundamental aspects of the Absolute philosophy: craftsmanship, innovation, and organization. Boats are constructed using ISS (Integrated Structural System) before being hand-finished. This combination of technology and artisanship is the core of Absolute’s ethos and the key to its success. Human worker and robot don’t compete in Piacenza – they complement one another. One of the most celebrated fruits of this partnership is the brand’s popular Navetta range, a line of seven models starting at 48 feet in length.
With its Navetta range, Absolute has ventured into uncharted territory for Italian naval design, which is not known for embarking on long-distance cruisers. As with every Absolute yacht, the Navetta is a perfectly-calibrated combination of grandeur, agility, and amenities (all solid characteristics of an Italian yacht) with the kind of fuel economy and performance expected of long-range craft. The Navetta 75, Absolute’s current fleet flagship, is a palace on the water. Evoking a modern-day version of ancient royal barques, the Navetta 75 is a study in luxury, its curvaceous yet precise geometry the first indication of the spirit of generosity and hospitality that obtains throughout the yacht. Here, everything has been thought of ahead of time: the free-flowing layout encourages easy and safe movement through the vessel, with sliding doors and a dual staircase that ward against any bottlenecks in foot traffic.
